Home fans have plenty to cheer for, too. Wildcards Wang Xiyu, Wang Yafan, Guo Hanyu, and veteran Zhang Shuai bolster a strong Chinese contingent, while the qualifiers — including Kaja Juvan, Claire Liu, and Lulu Sun — add intrigue and unpredictability to the main draw.

WTA Round-Up: Sun Dominates Wang, McNally Survives Three-Set Battle
China’s Wang Yafan couldn’t find her rhythm as New Zealand’s Lulu Sun delivered a dominant performance to reach the next round. The Kiwi dictated with pace and precision, breaking Wang’s serve early in both sets to seal a confident win.
In one of the day’s most competitive matches, Caty McNally held off Ajla Tomljanovic. The American joins compatriots Claire Liu and Katie Volynets in advancing — Liu defeating Anna Bondar, while Volynets impressed with a composed victory over Rakotomanga Rajaonah.
Germany’s Ella Seidel continued her steady rise, ousting Yulia Putintseva in a confident display of power hitting. Over on the outer courts, Shuai Zhang came from behind to beat Veronika Erjavec turning the match around. Elsewhere, Elisabetta Cocciaretto edged Wang Xiyu in a tight, momentum-shifting encounter, while Ann Li advanced smoothly past Osorio.
