The WTA 1000 Wuhan Open in China runs from October 4 to October 12 at the Optics Valley International Tennis Centre. The event is the second big Chinese hard-court event and features 96 singles players and strong doubles competition. Just like the China Open in Beijing this Dongfeng Voyah Wuhan Open is one of Asia’s most important tournaments.
No Qinwen Zheng, Aryna Sabalenka Defending Champion
The Optics Valley International Tennis Center will host 106 matches, divided into two stages: the qualifiers from October 4 to 5 (scroll down to see qualifying results), and the main draw from October 6 to 12.
The field is led by defending champion and world No.1 Aryna Sabalenka.
All players will compete for 1,000 ranking points and a total prize of $3.65 million.
The 22-year-old Qinwen Zheng had prepared to make a highly anticipated return to her home city Wuhan, as she attempted to feature in both WTA 1000 events in China. It was not to be. Elbow problems once again forced China’s No.1 female player to fall back to the sidelines.

Wuhan Open 2025 Qualifications – Semi-finals
Here are the quick hits from Wuhan qualifying R1:
- Statement wins: Yulia Putintseva blitzed Diane Parry 6–1, 6–0; Bianca Andreescu and Katerina Siniakova moved through in clean straight sets.
- Comeback city: Anna Blinkova, Viktoriya Tomova, Emiliana Arango, and Mai Hontama Uchijima all rallied from a set down to advance.
- Notable upset: Ana Ruzic ousted Elisabetta Cocciaretto 6–3, 6–1, one of the day’s sharper surprises.
- Power checked: Alycia Parks fell to Anastasia Zakharova 6–4, 6–0; Katie Boulter was turned back by Tomova in three.
- Home headlines: China had mixed results—Wang Xinyu and Wang Yafan both won but Tian Fangran lost to Lucia Bronzetti.
- On the mend, moving on: Ajla Tomljanovic advanced past Varvara Gracheva after a tight first set; Iva Jovic kept her rise going with a composed 6–3, 6–4.
Bottom line: favorites largely held, a few seeds got stung, and the locals had enough momentum to keep the draw spicy for the final qualifying round.
