Coco Gauff Blazes into Cincinnati Open Quarters with Confident Straight-Sets Win

Gauff Dominates to Earn Cincinnati Quarterfinal Berth

Coco Gauff advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2025 Cincinnati Open by dispatching Lucia Bronzetti in straight sets, 6–2, 6–4. Her commanding performance extended a perfect 2–0 head-to-head record against the Italian star. Gauff will now face seventh seed Jasmine Paolini in the next round.

Gauff Sets the Tone Early with Commanding Start

Coco Gauff opened Set 1 on serve and quickly took control, holding with ease to get on the board. She immediately broke Lucia Bronzetti in the next game, converting her first break point to grab a 2–0 lead.

Riding that momentum, Gauff held at love and followed up with another clean service game to extend her lead to 3–0.

Bronzetti pushed back in the fourth game, saving multiple break points to hold for 3–1. She then held again to narrow the gap to 3–2, showing resilience in the face of Gauff’s pressure.

But the American was unshaken. Gauff broke back in a tight sixth game to move ahead 4–2, then held for 5–2. Serving to close out the set, she needed three set points but ultimately slammed the door shut, taking the opener 6–2 with authority.

Gauff Holds Her Nerve to Close Out in Style

Coco Gauff opened the second set on serve and continued to apply pressure from the baseline, holding comfortably to take a 1–0 lead. She then broke Lucia Bronzetti again to go up 2–0, signaling an early repeat of the first set.

Bronzetti, however, dug in and fought back. She broke Gauff at love, then held serve to level the set at 2–2. The momentum shifted back and forth in some deuce battle as both players exchanged service holds to reach 3–3.

Gauff edged ahead 4–3 with a composed hold, but Bronzetti responded with her own to keep things tight at 4–4.

In the final stretch, Gauff’s consistency and aggression paid off. She held serve to go up 5–4, then broke Bronzetti one final time—securing the match on her first match point to win the second set 6–4.

It was a composed, mature finish from the American, who weathered Bronzetti’s mid-set resistance and elevated her game when it mattered most.

Return of Form on Southwest Ohio Hardcourt

After not playing for four days—first due to a walkover when Dayana Yastremska withdrew, and previously for a relative breeze past Wang Xinyu—Gauff showed no signs of rust. Her aggressive yet controlled play proved decisive on the hard court, reaffirming her status as a force on the North American swing.
