Former world No. 1 Karolina Pliskova has expressed concerns in an interview with livescore.cz over the perceived inconsistency in doping rulings, particularly in the cases involving Iga Swiatek and Jannik Sinner. She suggests that high-profile players may receive more lenient punishments compared to others.
Pliskova, a two-time Grand Slam finalist, has been balancing her tennis career with coaching duties at her academy, working with players like Brenda Fruhvirtova and Jil Teichmann. Reflecting on the recent doping revelations, she emphasized the importance of caution to avoid unintentional doping, stating, “You probably need to be extremely careful about what you consume.”
She criticized the International Tennis Integrity Agency’s (ITIA) handling of these cases, noting, “Players who aren’t exactly No. 1 or No. 2 in the world tend to receive harsher punishments than the top players. That shouldn’t be the case.”
Pliskova last competed at the US Open in late August, retiring due to injury during her second-round match against Jasmine Paolini. She has since announced that she will miss the Australian Open and the WTA 1000 events in Dubai and Doha, aiming for a return to competition in March: “I thought I’d be playing in three months and heading to Australia, but now I don’t see that happening at all. But I’ll be happy to return in March.”
