Singapore – Top seed Anna Kalinskaya battled past the spirited Simona Waltert in a hard-fought encounter at the WTA Singapore Tennis Open 2024. The Russian emerged victorious with a 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) scoreline, advancing to the quarterfinals.
Kalinskaya dominated the opening set, breaking Waltert’s serve twice to establish a commanding lead. The second set proved more challenging. While Kalinskaya appeared poised for a swift victory, Waltert refused to yield, forcing a tie-break.
However, Kalinskaya ultimately prevailed in the breaker and securing her place in the next round.
“It was a tough match,” Anna Kalinskaya acknowledged after the match. “She’s a great player. I had many chances, many break points, but she has an unbelievable serve. Some big shots.”
Kalinskaya will now face Mananchaya Sawangkaew of Thailand, who advanced earlier in the day. The Russian will be aiming to maintain her momentum and continue her pursuit of the title in Singapore.
